Assignment task

Context: 

Your task is to write a 3000 word (+/- 10%) professional business report using relevant literature and theories. This report is intended for the senior management team of the case company, with the aim of offering actionable recommendations for harnessing sustainability to achieve strategic growth within the rapidly evolving global business environment.

You are tasked with developing a comprehensive sustainable business strategy for Fabweld Steel Products (FSP). The strategy should align with the principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Your analysis and recommendations should be evidence-based and consider both internal and external factors.

FSP are market leaders in the design and manufacture of access covers and other fabricated steel products for the construction industry, including non-structural and structural applications.

Report Structure

Introduction to Sustainable Business Strategy

  • Brief introduction to the FSP, their competitors, the significance of sustainability in FSP.
  • Develop a SWOT analysis for FSP and x2 competitors (use a table to show this comparison)

Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Analyse how the FSP strategy aligns with the 17 SDGs, identify the 5 appropriate goals to FSP
  • Evaluate the potential impact and contribution of the FSP towards achieving these SDGs. 

Triple Bottom Line (TBL) Application

  • Apply the TBL model and discuss its relevance to the FSP.
  • Provide strategies for balancing social impact, financial viability, and environmental stewardship within the FSP’s operations.

Sustainable Marketing

  • Critique the current marketing activities of FSP against their competitors: website analysis (using Ubersuggest, Website Grader and Semrush) and social media followers, as well as content evaluation
  • Examine how marketing can support in raising awareness for FSP and their social and environmental activities.

Content Creation

  • Using Canva.com develop a creative and visual LinkedIn post and supporting caption to promote and attract awareness to FSP’s sustainability activities.

Creating Original Sustainable Strategic Goals

  • Develop SMART goals focusing on supply chain management, community engagement etc. (Ensure the goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) 

Sustainable Business Strategy Frameworks

  • Utilise the SAF framework, McKinsey 7S framework, and Porter’s Five Forces framework to analyse the FSP’s current position and formulate strategic recommendations.

Critical Reflection

  • Reflect on the challenges and opportunities faced by the FSP in implementing the proposed strategy.
  • Conclude with a call to action for the senior management team, highlighting key priorities and next steps.
