Summative assessment brief 2024-25 

In the assessment for this module, you are required to demonstrate your learning across all the module learning outcomes by producing a 2500-word report which describes the purpose and process of research in the health sector, before applying research skills to conduct a literature search and synthesis on a health-related topic of your choosing. You will use the evidence you have found to provide a rationale for a novel research question based on the gaps identified in the existing literature.

Module learning outcomes.

1. Describe the purpose and process of conducting research in health.
2. Apply research skills to retrieve and appraise current academic research literature related to a selected area of study.
3. Justify a research question and design based on the gaps identified in the existing literature.

Word limit for your report.

The word limit for this assignment is 2500 words with a 10% tolerance. This means that your overall word count must be between 2250 words and 2750 words. Do not exceed 2750 words. If your submitted work is more than 10% above the word limit, then the work will be marked, and a penalty applied. The word count excludes your front sheet, reference list, tables, figures, and any appendices. It does however include headings, quotations, and the use of in-text citations in the body of your work. 

Presentation of your work.

Ensure that you include a front sheet with the following information: your student number, module code, module title, assignment title, module leader, module iteration leader, submission due date and word count. A template of a front sheet is available for you to download and use within the module Canvas tile.

• You should use the template provided in the Canvas module to present your work.
• Use Ariel font, size 12 and 1.5 line spacing.
• Justify your text.
• Ensure that your pages are numbered and that your student number is also on every page.
• Please address all sections of the assessment requirements.
