For further module description see the Module Brief.

Assessment deadline:

Please check the Moodle page.

Instructions for the assessments

Summative 1 Assessment:

You will complete two 25 item Multiple Choice Questionnaires (MCQs). The questions will cover key learning areas from the module. This will therefore involve you reading the lecture slides for all weeks of the module. All the information you need will be there.

The total grade for this element will contribute 40% of the final grade for the module.

Summative 2 Assessment: Presentation and Reflection

Video presentation (Kaltura submission link)

You will submit a 10 to 15 minute video presentation that demonstrates competent use of taught problem-solving tools and techniques and research methods and a conclusion and recommendations. You should use an original problem found at a business you have worked for.

The presentation design and delivery should follow guidance you have been taught during this module.

References should be included at the back of the presentation but will not be included in the wordcount. You must use the Harvard system.

The grade for this element will contribute 30% of the final grade for the module. Reflection (Turnitin submission link)

The second element of your summative 2 submission requires you to write a reflective piece of 1,000 words documenting your learning experience, its outcomes and how the experience will inform your practice.

Reflective writing requires thinking below surface thoughts and describing your thoughts and your emotions.

This is not and experience that is common for most people and so using one or more frameworks for reflective writing is helpful. A guide to reflective writing can be found on the module’s Moodle page.

The deeper your reflection the more powerful it will be in building your self-awareness. Higher levels of self–awareness increase the efficacy of decision making and leadership.

The grade for this element will contribute 30% of the final grade for the module.

Should you fail the assessment at the first attempt and be referred to retake the coursework, only the individual elements will be reworked for the same project scenario, with 10% of the resit mark awarded for an additional reflective statement demonstrating how you learnt from the feedback and what you did differently the second time.

How will your work be assessed?

Your work will be assessed by a subject expert who will use either the marking criteria provided in the section “Instructions for assessment” or the Marking rubric enclosed in the Appendix, as appropriate for this module. When you access your marked work it is important that you reflect on the feedback so that you can use it to improve future assignments.

Referencing and submission

You must use the Harvard System.

The Business School requires a digital version of all assignment submissions. These must be submitted via Turnitin on the module’s Moodle site. They must be submitted as a Word file (not as a pdf) and must not include scanned in text or text boxes. They must be submitted by 1:59pm on the given date. For further general details on coursework preparation refer to the online information at StudentZone, http://studentzone.roehampton.ac.uk/howtostudy/index.html.

Mitigating circumstances/what to do if you cannot submit a piece of work or attend your presentation.

The University Mitigating Circumstances Policy can be found on the University website: Mitigating Circumstances Policy

Marking and feedback process

Between you handing in your work and then receiving your feedback and marks within 20 days, there are a number of quality assurance processes that we go through to ensure that students receive marks which reflects their work. A brief summary is provided below.

  • Step One – The module and marking team meet to agree standards, expectations and how feedback will be provided.
  • Step Two – A subject expert will mark your work using the criteria provided in the assessment brief.
  • Step Three – A moderation meeting takes place where all members of the teaching and marking team will review the marking of others to confirm whether they agree with the mark and feedback
  • Step Four – Work at Levels 5 and 6 then goes to an external examiner who will review a sample of work to confirm that the marking between different staff is consistent and fair
