Assessment Scenario

“Once a global leader in the technology sector, Nokia Corporation surrendered its dominance due to several strategic errors in its digital transformation approach”. (Lamberg et al., 2019).

For this assignment, you have recently joined Nokia, as the new Chief Transformation Officer (CTO), responsible for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) geographical business activities. Currently, Nokia still engages in the provision of network infrastructure, technology, and software services. As a CTO, your role is to help optimise business processes, such as selling, marketing, communications, collaboration and innovation. All digital transformation and change management efforts also fall under your responsibility.

As part of your new role, the senior board members have tasked you to produce a “Transformation Report`` designed to evaluate and recommend changes that the organisation must implement in order to revive the organisation.

This is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability and give your employer the confidence to let you run your own project in the future. Your report must include the following sections

Task 1: Challenges and Opportunities Analysis (LO1)

Critically review key opportunities and challenges your organisation is facing in the current, yet complex digital disruption environment.

Important: Your analysis for Task 1 should be critical - you can include some digital transformation objectives that can support key departments such as Operations, ICT, and Marketing. You are encouraged to use examples to reinforce your arguments.

Task 2: Incorporation of the Digital Business Agility Model (LO2)

Evaluate and propose three (3) emerging technologies and techniques that can be adopted by your organisation to sense changes, make informed decisions, and adjust quickly in a highly disruptive market.

Important: To support your argument, please use the Digital Business Agility Model (i.e., hyperawareness, make informed decisions and execute fast) as a blueprint – see the diagram below. Some key emerging technologies to consider include Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, 5G Connectivity, IoT, Virtual and Extended Reality, Robotic process automation (RPA).

Task 3: Improving and Maintaining a Digital-Ready Culture (LO3)

As the CTO, one of your key roles is to drive digital-ready culture and create value for all stakeholders. Subsequently, Task 3 requires you to analyse and conceptualise a strong digital culture approach that your organisation can adopt by using digital tools and data- powered insights to drive decisions and customer-centricity while innovating and collaborating across the organization.

N.BPlease support your argument with academic literature and real case examples. You can use the 4 Pillars of Digital Culture or other relevant models as a guide to drive your analyses and recommendations.

Task 4: Digital Leadership and Change (LO4)

Recommend two (2) appropriate digital leadership styles that your organisation should develop further to support digital transformation and increase team collaboration throughout the organisation.

ImportantYou have been introduced to concepts such us hyperaware agile leaders, ethical- tech leaders, people-oriented leadership, agile leadership, and the 6 Goleman leadership styles. Therefore, this may form part of a potential reply. However, any other relevant response is equally valid.
