- Using change and service improvement theories, models and tools, critically discuss how you would manage change to address this problem/issue in order to improve the quality of your service

Assessment Briefing Information

- Firstly identify ‘your service’. This can be the service that you currently work in or a service that you have worked in previously.
- When defining quality, ensure that you identify and critically review a number of definitions and either; choose one that relates best to your service or write your own. Give your rationale for choosing the one you choose. Make sure you take into consideration the national & local context in terms of quality and quality improvement; and any quality guidance that may relate to your service.
- When reviewing/assessing the quality of your service, choose an appropriate quality model or theory which best fits your situation/service (again justify why you have chosen this one). Some you may wish to consider are Donabedian; Maxwell; High Quality Care for All; Standards; ISO. Application of the quality model should help you identify a quality problem.
- When you identify your problem/issue choose something small as this will make the next part of the assignment more manageable and will allow you to look in depth rather than discussing too broadly. Make it clear what the problem is that are aiming to ‘solve’.
- When discussing how you would manage the change, make sure you identify/make clear the

change required – use one, or more, of the diagnostic tools.
- When discussing the management of the change, critically discuss change models and then perhaps choose one to give you a framework in which to write. Justify why you have chosen this model. Some you might consider are Lewin, Hayes, Kotter, NHS change model.
- Using a model as a framework and to give you structure to your essay, critically discuss HOW you would prepare for change, implement the change, and evaluate and sustain the change.
- You might want to include resistance to change and what makes change successful. You might want to discuss the impact culture will have on your change.
