Submission deadline: Tuesday 06 February 2024, no later than 16:30pm (UK local time)
Learning outcomes:
1.Synthesise and critically review major theories of HRM and HRD, understanding how development, impacts on improvement. This will include motivational and engagement theories and how these are put into practice, in organisations.
2. Critically evaluate good leadership style, its impact on strategy, its characteristics, ethics and values and the methods that organisations, use to develop their employees.
3.Critically assess the role of HRM and HRD, including the methods and practices within different organisations, in particular with regard to constructing development plans and managing change.
Assessment details: Individual written report, 100% (2,500 words)

For the following tasks in Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3, select an organisation of your choice to contextualise your answers. You can use the same organisation throughout all Parts, or you can select different organisations for individual Parts.Select an organisation of your choice and use theories of HRM and HRD as your preferred evidence and following a critical approach answer the following (total 800 words):
Part-1

(a) Critically evaluate the arguments for and against the belief that the employees of your chosen organisation should be viewed as assets (250 words).
(b) Critically assess the evidence for the claim that investing in people will produce worthwhile returns, for your chosen organisation (250 words).
(c) Given that convincing evidence exists for the claim in (b), critically discuss why some organisations continue to act as if their workforce were simply a cost to be minimised. How does your chosen organisation act (300 words)?
Part-2
“Leadership in all organisations exists at three different levels, the team, the operational and the strategic. Therefore there is no value in having a great strategic leader if your organisation is useless at the team and operational levels.”Synthesise and critically review major theories of HRM and HRD, understanding how development, impacts on improvement. Select an organisation of your choice (or use the same as in Part 1) and using reliable and valid evidence, following a critical approach, answer the following (total 800 words):
(a)Critically evaluate the above statement and its relevance for practising managers within your chosen organisation (350 words).
(b)Critically evaluate strategies that your chosen organisation could use in recruiting, selecting and developing people to ensure that there is a balance between team, operational and strategic leaders (450 words)
Part-3
“Understanding the obstacles to change is the first step in successfully managing change.”
Select an organisation of your choice (or use the same as in Part 1/Part 2) and using reliable and valid evidence, following a critical approach, answer the following (total 900 words):
(a)Critically discuss how “force-field analysis” can improve the ways in which organisational change could be managed within your chosen organisation (400 words).
(b)Using your chosen organisation, critically assess the relationships between organisational change and the role of HRM and HRD (500 words).
