  • Lateness Penalty: For each day or part day up to five days after the published deadline, coursework relating to modules submitted late will have the numeric grade reduced by 10 grade points until or unless the numeric grade reaches the minimum pass mark (UG 40/PG 50).  Where the numeric grade awarded for the assessment is less than the minimum pass mark no lateness penalty will be applied.  If the coursework is submitted more than 5 days after the published deadline, it will not be marked and a grade of zero will be awarded. Please note: Referred coursework submitted after the published deadline will be awarded a grade of zero (0).

      I. Calculate a range of ratios for the year 2023 and 2022 to evaluate the financial performance of ASOS plc in terms of profitability, liquidity and efficiency for the years ended 3 September 2023 and 31 August 2022.  Calculate eight (8) ratios for each year that you think are useful, using the range of ratios covered in week 2 and 3.

     II. Write a report (maximum 1,000 words) that interprets, comments on, and evaluates the financial performance of ASOS plc using any three of the ratios calculated above (I) by comparing the results of 2023 and 2022.

Description of the assignment, task, content, and structure:

Assume you work in the Advisory department of a consultancy firm in the United Kingdom.

A group of prospective institutional and individual investors want to understand more about ASOS Plc to make decision about future investments.

You have been asked to write a report to the prospective investors explaining why ASOS Plc is a good company to invest in.

Steps:

- Use three (3) of the eight (8) ratios you calculated for your report.

- You should demonstrate an understanding of the three (3) ratios you have chosen, interpret the ratios and comment on the ratios.

- Use the three (3) ratios you have chosen to evaluate the performance of the company

- You will need to read around the topic in academic, business, and professional journals or websites. Your textbook will give a basic introduction only.

Do NOT reference Wikipedia, Investopedia, or tutorial websites. If you use them for background information you MUST follow up the points in good quality sources.

Prepare a Management Report, suitable for presentation to prospective investors. Your report should include Front page and Table of Contents (required), Table of Figures/Charts (if any), Executive Summary (required), Introduction (required), Content/Findings/Critical Evaluation (main body of the report where you answer the questions posed) (required), Conclusion (required), Reference List (required) and Appendices (if any). Any reports that do not contain the required sections will be penalised. 

Your report should be submitted electronically via Canvas as a Word file (not a pdf).

Word-count:

Please insert the word-count on the front-page of the report. The word-count should be 1000 words plus or minus 10%.
