Key Details and Requirements
Submission deadline: Friday 14 June 2024, no later than 16:30pm (UK local time)
Module learning outcomes:
- Critically review literature to establish extant positions to frame and guide business research.
- Critically assess a range of quantitative and qualitative research designs used in business and management research.
- Choose the appropriate methods to collect, collate and analyse data that is relevant to the business project
- Produce a proposal demonstrating an understanding of the implications of learning outcomes 1-3 in a business research project and produce a written research-based report that culminates in conclusions and recommendations that adequately address a research problem or show how a market opportunity will be explored.

Referencing: Students are expected to use Harvard Referencing throughout their assignments where required. Please follow the Harvard Referencing Handbook for all your assignments at the ULBS.
Submission Method: Turnitin - Your work will be put through Turnitin. All submissions will be electronically checked for plagiarism and the use of AI software.
- You have the option to upload your work ahead of the deadline, more than once. ULBS will be reviewing your last submission only. You can only upload one file. For example if your work contains a word document and power point slides/Excel spreadsheet you will need to copy your slides/spreadsheet into the word document. ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
For the formative assignment, the students will prepare a description of their intended project in either a Project Proposal or a Business Feasibility Report.
Project Proposal
The project proposal will comprise the initial literature that presents the justification for the business research project. It will also present a clear research agenda that indicates the research problem, question(s), aim(s) and objectives. This project proposal will feed into the business project report or the business research white paper output.
For the project proposal assignment, you will prepare a description of your intended project in a 3000-word document which will comprise the following:
1.Research title
This must indicate your research subject and show the focus of your business research project.
2.Introduction
This section must include background information, the rationale for the project and a summary of the sections of your proposal.
3.Initial literature review
This section must highlight current thinking around your research subject and identified problem(s) to identify gaps and further justify your business project and its focus.
4.Research problem, question(s) and objectives
These must present your problem statement and specific question(s) about the problem you intend to answer through your business project`s outcome(s). It should also present a list of things to do/achieve (objectives) to answer your research question(s).
5.Research methodology
This must briefly highlight your intended approaches for conducting your research project, particularly research design, data and data collection method (types, source, and access), and method of data analysis.
6.Ethical consideration/implication
This must highlight potential ethical issues that may arise during your project and how you intend to address them. Critically review literature to establish extant positions to frame and guide business research.
7.Time scale
This must present an indicative timeline (dates) of milestone tasks and
activities (phases of the project).
8.List of references
This must present full reference of all literature sources included (and cited in- text) in the body of your proposal using the Harvard referencing style as stipulated by The University of Law Business School.
Business Feasibility Report
The feasibility report will comprise sections on the background information introducing the overall business context and justification for the venture creation. It
will outline the proposed enterprise, initial market analysis, marketing plan, and cash flow forecast. It will present an initial review of relevant literature and indicate the methodology for completing the business plan. This feasibility report will feed into the business plan output.
For the business feasibility report assignment, you will prepare a description of your business idea and its commercial viability in a 3000-word document which will comprise the following:
1.Title
This must indicate the type of intended business venture and the market.
2.Introduction
This section must present an overview of the feasibility report
3.Background
This must address the business type and the offering (product/service).
4.Initial market analysis
This section must address identified market opportunities by providing evidence of market gap(s) to be pursued. It must present summaries of the initial analysis and the findings that justify the intention to establish the business venture. The justification must draw on findings and conclusions from academic and practitioner literature.
5.Marketing plan
This section must present chosen market segment and the venture’s strategy to reach the market segment to attract, win, and retain customers.Critically assess a range of quantitative and qualitative research designs used in business and management research
6.Cashflow Projection
This section must highlight the projected revenue and expenses of the venture to give an indication of the amount of cash that will be available to the business over a specific period. Typically, it should present a five-year projection.
7.Project methodology
This section will highlight how the business plan will be completed. It must indicate the analyses to be carried out and the tools/models required to complete all sections of the business plan.
8.Ethical consideration/implication
This must highlight potential ethical issues that may arise during your project and how you intend to address them.
9.Time scale
