A1: Research Proposal (20%)

Task:

You are required to submit a research proposal of 1500 words that outlines a clear research topic, objectives, methodology, and potential outcomes.Your proposal should demonstrate critical thinking,a comprehensive understanding of the chosen subject area,and the ability to formulate a research plan.

Assessment Criteria:

· Clarity and relevance of the research topic.

· Identification and explanation of clear research objectives.

· Appropriateness and coherence of the proposed methodology.

· Feasibility of the research plan within the word limit.

· Evidence of critical analysis and synthesis of relevant literature.

· Low similarity index, negligible context overlaps from other sources.

A2: Dissertation (70%)

Task:

You are required to produce a 10000-word dissertation that demonstrates your ability to conduct in-depth research, analyse data (if applicable), critically evaluate findings, and present a coherent argument or conclusion within your chosen field of study, i.e. Bioinformatics.

Assessment Criteria:

· The originality of the computer programs used in the research and in- depth discussion of the underlying algorithms.

· Effective use of a machine learning algorithm to address a biomedical challenge.

· Evidence of using a publicly available dataset and/or database.

· Clear and logical structure of the dissertation.

· Depth and breadth of literature review and research methodology.

· Critical analysis and interpretation of data.

· Coherence and relevance of findings to the research objectives.

· Originality of thought and argumentation.

· Academic writing style, referencing, and adherence to academic conventions (if applicable).

· Low similarity index, negligible context overlaps from other sources.

A3: Oral Examination (10%)

Task:

You will participate in an oral examination where you will discuss and defend your dissertation research and findings. The oral examination aims to assess your ability to articulate key points, respond to questions, and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of your research.

Assessment Criteria:

· Clarity and coherence of oral presentation.

· Knowledge and understanding of the research topic.

· Ability to engage in critical discussion and defend research outcomes.

· Response to questions with depth and clarity.

· Voice-over presentation slides uploaded to Blackboard Turnitin.

Assessment criteria will be used to evaluate your work and will guide the grading process. Marks will be awarded based on the extent to which you meet these criteria.

Generic Grade Criteria

Distinction (70 - %)

The standard achieved is excellent and the work provides clear evidence of a very well presented report of the subject that:

(I) shows a clear grasp of background and context of the work,

(ii) gives a complete and fully accurate account of the experimental procedures and results, and

(iii) shows evidence of some outside reading or of critical or analytical ability** including an understanding of the limits of the experimental procedures and possible sources of errors.

Merit (60 - 69%)

The standard achieved is very good and the work provides clear evidence for the following features, without fully achieving one of them:

(I) shows a clear grasp of background and context of the work,

(ii) gives a complete and fully accurate account of the experimental procedures and results, and

(iii) shows evidence of some outside reading or of critical or analytical ability** including an understanding of the limits of the experimental procedures and possible sources of errors.
