Detailed Brief for Individual Assessment

Learning is not something that is easy to achieve on your own, it is more successful when working with, listening to and talking with others.  Here we are asking you to think about your level of engagement with your team and consider if this aided you all in meeting your objective.

This reflection should  evaluate how well you have engaged with the learning  and if this has lived up to your expectations when you signed up for this MSc.

It would be good to hear how we have helped, if we have helped, and where we have failed you.  Use this opportunity to help us, to inform us, to give us material that we can learn from.  Reflection is a form of self-exposure from which you can learn and at the same time inform us.  Thank you in advance.

Reflection involves looking back and thinking about what you have done, what you have learned, how well you have engaged with the learning but also where you have failed to meet your own or our expectations. So consider the following before you begin to write:

Description of the assignment:

The purpose of reflection is to enable you to

  • Think about your learning, is or has your knowledge base grown this semester, and across this programme of study?
  • Look back and examine how you felt at different points in your learning journey and evaluate what you have learned across the experience?
  • Look forward and see what more you could have learned to prepare you for the world of work.

some thoughts:

Much of  post-secondary and professional education is focused on developing expertise and skills in a specific domain of knowledge, here it is in management research skills. Although a variety of educational methods, pedagogy and curricular designs have been used to assist with your development and your learning, it is critically important that you appreciate and understand the nature and development of expertise as a cognitive and social phenomenon.

Reflection can provide a real boost to your understanding of your own learning and is a key skill to take with you for the rest of your life. This specific assignment is worth 20% of the final grade and is thus important.– particularly after you have been working in a team, sharing roles and responsibility and dealing with different levels of knowledge, engagement and responsibilities. Learning to resolve disputes and disagreements. We can but hope that you have learned from the experience and added to your skill base as you leave us.
