Assignment task

This assignment will introduce students to the academic and study skills that Foundation Year students require to successfully complete a Business and Management Degree. The assignment will help develop key academic skills that will be needed throughout the duration of the degree programme.

This assignment is to be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation delivered in the classroom in group of approximately 5-6 students who must all contribute to the assignment and the delivery of the presentation   

 

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:

Assignment Task and Requirements

Prepare a group presentation using the PowerPoint platform, that is to be 10 minutes presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers.  Your Lecturer will assign you to your group.

WHAT ARE YOU ASKED TO DO?

Prepare a presentation of a tourism destination in the UK of your group’s choice and present your research-supported reasonings as to why this destination and its facilities and amenities are of particular interest to your group.

 This task will require you to include all of the following:

  1. Identification of the destination and the typical type of tourist that visit, using research to support your claims.
  2. Highlight the attractions available for your group, explaining why they are suitable and of interest to your group as recommended by industry experts.
  3. Discuss the available transportation and accommodation options in the chosen destination.

Important:

All of your work must be based on reliable research and have a minimum of 10 different sources within it. Please ensure you use both direct and indirect citations.  As this is a presentation all images must be directly linked to the information on each slide and come from a reliable source.

Referencing and research requirements

Assignment Guide and Format

 Your Presentation needs to include:

1) Introduction – that introduces the team members, and the destination you have chosen, including a visual of the location.

2) Key facts about the destination including statistics such as annual tourist visits and seasonal variations.

3) Using Cohens (1972) Tourist Typology model and further research identify which tourist type the majority of your group belong to and why the destination you have chosen is suitable for this type of tourist.

4) Identify key attractions within the destination that industry experts recommend for your type of tourist – this needs to be taken directly from industry experts and not based on your groups own experiences or preferences.

5) Discuss the transport and accommodation options available at your chosen destination based on relevant research.

6) Conclusion – summarise the key points of your presentation on one slide and open the floor for questions.

7) Reference slide – using the Harvard Reference system and showing all of the sources used and cited.

8) The final slide of the presentation needs to be a table that shows which elements of the task each member of the group undertook.

You must reference all sources used in your project, using the CCCU Harvard Referencing Guide.

All information in your assignment must come from research.

All members of the group must present on the day.  

 

How your work will be assessed

Your work will be assessed on the extent to which it demonstrates your achievement of the stated learning outcomes for this assignment (see above) and against other key criteria, as defined in the University’s institutional grading descriptors. If it is appropriate to the format of your assignment and your subject area, a proportion of your marks will also depend upon your use of academic referencing conventions.This assignment will be marked according to the grading descriptors for Level 0

Submission details

This assignment should be submitted electronically via Moodle (module tutors will discuss this process with you during class time). 

  • Please ensure that your work has been saved in an appropriate file format (Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint, or PDF are the most widely used; Google Docs is also accepted). Your file must also contain at least 20 words of text, consist of fewer than 400 pages and be less than 40MB in size.
