3.Assessment 2 Details


Students are required to apply a diverse range of theoretical concepts and analytical tools to conduct a comprehensive strategic analysis of an organisation in line with Learning Outcome 3: "Apply a range of concepts and tools to conduct a full strategic analysis of an organisation."

Please read the "Can the Saturday boy change Marks & Spencer?" case study in the module core text authored by Whittington et al. (2019), pages 490-492. You can find the complete reference details of the core text and a link to access it in the Syllabus section for your convenience. After familiarising yourself with the case, address the following assessment tasks. In each section, apply relevant concepts, theories, or models that you consider appropriate.

This is considered to deliver the most accurate and fair outcomes for students. Each assessment that you undertake will be assessed using the common grading system. 3.How did Steve Rowe approach the transformation of Marks & Spencer as the Chief Executive? Discuss the initial stages of his strategy and their impact on the company`s performance. (600 Words) (20%)

4.Evaluate the role of digital sales and e-commerce in shaping the retail landscape. How did Marks & Spencer`s digital efforts compare to competitors, and what improvements were needed? (600 Words) (20%)

5.With a focus on the clothing and home products segment, propose innovative strategies to reposition Marks & Spencer and attract a younger customer base, considering product offerings, design, and overall customer experience. (600 Words) (20%)

3.2Submission requirements

You must submit your assignment by using the Turnitin gateway in the module’s Canvas site.

Please Note: When you submit you will be asked to confirm you have referred to the Submission Checklist (see Appendix 2) and the act of submitting your work electronically will be taken as an acceptance of the Declaration of Authorship (see Appendix 3 and Appendix 4). 3.2.1Word Limits and Penalties for Excess Word Count

All written assignments include clear guidance on the maximum amount that should be written in order to address the requirements of the assessment task (a ‘word limit’).

If the submission exceeds the word limit by more than 10%, the submission will only be marked up to and including the additional 10%. Anything over this will not be included in the final grade for the item of assessment.

The penalty for exceeding the word count will be 5 marks per 1,000 words excess (e.g. a 1,000 word assignment would have 5 marks deducted if it were to be between 1,101 and 2,100 words, 10 marks deducted for if it were to be between 2,101 and 3,100 words and so on).

Abstracts, citations in footnotes, reference lists, bibliographies and appendices are excluded from any word limit requirements.

In-text citations, embedded quotations, and all headings and titles are included in the word limit.

Where a submission is notably under the word limit, the full submission will be marked on the extent to which the requirements of the assessment task have been met. Generally speaking, submissions under the word limit fall short of the requirements of the assessment task.

Information on extensions and extenuating circumstances can be found in the Student Handbook,

Section 13.

Applications for extensions should be submitted via the Student Self-service Portal, SSP.

Applications for extenuating circumstances, with supporting evidence (such as medical certificates) should be made through the e-Vision portal.
